A petition to the Office of the Mayor of New Orleans
Fix Franklin Avenue.
Then fix the rest of our streets.
Franklin Avenue is one of the main arteries of this city. It carries people from the lakefront, down through Gentilly and the 8th Ward, to St. Claude, the Marigny and the Bywater. We use it every day: to get to work, to school, to church, to the hospital.
And it is one of the worst roads in New Orleans. Potholes that swallow tires. Patch on patch on patch. Stretches where the only safe way to drive is to swerve. It breaks suspensions, rims and tires. It is dangerous for drivers, cyclists, buses and everyone on foot.
We made a game about it. You can't win at Franklin Avenue; you can only survive it. That shouldn't be true of a real street.
We, the undersigned, ask Mayor Helena Moreno and the City of New Orleans to:
- Repair and resurface Franklin Avenue from the lakefront to St. Claude Avenue as a priority.
- Publish a schedule for that work, and stick to it.
- Make Franklin Avenue the first of many: fix the streets that every neighborhood depends on.
